Recorder’s Ramblings August 2024

You didn’t make it to the Bektash Picnic? You missed an awesome time. The food was almost as good as the fun. We had a paper plane flying and decorating contest, a silent auction with lots of good stuff, and a dunk tank for the brave at heart. Rumor has it that I dropped the assembly instructions into the dunk tank. Ill. Norris and I managed to fish them out without any damage to ourselves or the tank, but he did offer to hold my feet while I reached for them at the bottom. A big THANK YOU goes out to Ill. Brent and Tracey Norris for sponsoring a wonderful afternoon!

We have started getting some parts delivered for the new light pole at the rear of the parking lot. Hopefully, the work will start soon. First, a trench has got to be dug from the power pole by the gazebo to the other side of the lot. We will not have to disturb any of the asphalt that was recently done. The 25-foot pole will be delivered after the trench is completed. Presently, the two light fixtures are here at Bektash. It’ll be a big improvement especially in the winter months for our Bingo patrons when they leave after the game is through.

We’ve found out that we cannot install a sink next to the Bektash Bar, as there’s an electric outlet and light switch next to where the sink is going to be. I’ve contacted an electrician to put in a GFCI outlet, so no one gets “lit up” while washing their hands. Once that is completed, Ill. Simard will put the sink and plumb it in. It’s always something.

The original deadline for the NSA has been extended a few days because we have been able to secure a couple more rooms. If you are planning to attend, please let us know in the office so we can get you on the spreadsheet. The weekend is filling up quickly and we do not want to leave anyone out. Once the rooms have been spoken for, we will not be able to get more. Talk it over with your significant other and don’t be left out. It’s going to be wicked big fun.

One final note: Please read the proposed Bektash Bylaw change to be voted on at our September Stated meeting. If you have any doubts or concerns, please give me a call in the office.

Isn’t it Great to be a Shriner?
