Recorder’s Ramblings May 2024

On April 11, Ill. Lloyd Doughty and I boarded a plane to Tampa, Florida for the joint Recorders/Treasurers seminar. We both attended 2 full days of informational training on everything from insurance, legal procedures, reporting, membership, and proper bookkeeping. The presenters were well informed and dynamic in their delivery of the topics. The seminars were held at Egypt Shriners which is a beautiful waterfront facility. If you want to see the building, just google “Egypt Shriners”, and look at the available pictures. I told Lloyd that we came away from the weekend “wicked smaht”. He just gave a nervous cough and a sidelong glance in response.

Your Bektash Shrine Board/Finance committee is considering at least one change in our bylaws. Please look at the announcement in the Bektash News. This change will save us oodles of money and simplify our financial processes.

Thanks to our Chief Rabban, Evan McIntosh, we are in the process of getting new emails for the elected officers of your temple. The migration may seem slow, but worth it in the end. We have had several “hacked” email addresses sending out erroneous messages and this should take care of the situation in the future.

Ill. Paul Little PP, AR Ken Thoroughgood, HP&P Brett Hunter, OG Peter Raven, Ill. Lloyd Doughty and I attended the Northeast Shrine Association Midwinter meetings in Kingston, Ottawa. This is to plan for the Fall Field Days being held in September 19-22, 2024. There will be a big parade, competitions, and lots of fun! Plan on attending and bring your family. Kingston is a beautiful city and they’re excited to host the Shriners from New England and all the Maritime Provinces. Stay tuned for more information in the June edition of the Bektash News.

Your Divan has been working hard on completing all the tasks for our annual financial audit. They’ve worked tirelessly composing documents and preparing files for review. As our Pote, Alan Fillingham has said, “It’ll be great when we can get back to planning fun Shrine things again!”. Couldn’t agree with him more.

It’s Great to be a Shriner!
