Recorder’s Ramblings October 2023

We want to welcome our four new Nobles who were obligated and Fezzed at our Stated Meeting on September 18. They are: Brothers Peter Splaine, Donald Gray, Oiles “Tony” Tonini, and William “XL” Curtis. We all hope you enjoy the Fun and Fellowship of the Shrine.

The turnout for the Amy Freeman Memorial Bektash Golf Tournament was well attended. Ill. Brent Norris did a fantastic job organizing this year’s event. He told me that there were over 80 players on September 22 at Pembroke Pines Golf Course in Pembroke. The weather was perfect. There was a slight breeze (I still blamed my bad shots on the wind), sunny and around 70 degrees. I’ve called a full investigation on whoever “doctored” my hole sponsor sign. The culprit added a couple of letters to my name. We thought it was pretty funny. You know who you are….enough said.

Speaking of golf, I lost the sole of my right golf shoe on the 15th hole. After teeing off, I walked away, and the whole bottom of my shoe was sitting in the grass. Of course, my teammates were very understanding (not!) but managed to get me to my car so I could swap into my sneakers. No matter what I’ve got on my feet, it won’t improve my game.

Finally, the driveway paving is being done while I write this. They’re putting on the 1 ½ inches of the finish coat. When it’s had time to cure, we can get the parking lot lined, which will help with some of the functions we have here. It can get a little chaotic when we’ve got 100 cars trying to park in an unlined lot. I’ll keep you updated with the progress.

It’s so nice to see the submitted pictures of the events and parades. A picture tells a thousand words, and all your efforts are appreciated. The Bektash News is for you, and we rely on your submissions to keep it interesting.

Many thanks to all the Nobles of the different units and clubs who have so generously dedicated their time and efforts to keep our lawn spruced up. You fellows have done a magnificent job and we can’t do it without you. Your work has not gone unnoticed! Thank you!!

The Fez-tival of Trees is coming up quickly, so if you want to donate a tree, go to BektashShriners.org and fill out the forms. If you can’t donate a tree, please support the hard work of the committee by attending the Fez-tival or by volunteering some time. If you have any questions, please contact committee by sending an email to: Feztival@BektashShriners.org.

Isn’t it great to be a Shriner?
